Forgotten Creatures and Lost Causes (6+)

Forgotten Creatures and Lost Causes (6+)

Mr. Ut is an old man. He practically lives in his small giftshop for useless stuff. From top to bottom the shop is filled with his collection of peculiar objects, such as a piece of a broken doll, the leg of an armchair or the beak of a beast. Mr. Ut hoards everything, even the tiniest little thing, that he feels should not be forgotten. For this is a problem; he seems to be losing memories all the time. He just does not seem to remember them. It’s the fault of Mrs Caterpillar, for sure; she is always sneaking around in the shop and every time she was in, something seems to be missing. It is of the utmost importance that the extinct species Mr Ut is preserving will not get lost. For if they are no longer in the shop, they will gone forever.

Come to think of it, Mr. Ut’s shop is peculiar indeed, for in fact, nothing is to be sold. It is all for keepsake. Everything must be preserved. Although there is a price tag on all the goodies, Mr. Ut always finds a reason not to sell it. This has yet to be repaired, that one is reserved for someone else and this peace over here should be further investigated before it can possibly leave the store…

But, if you don’t want to sell anything at all, you can’t pay the rent. One day Mrs. Caterpillar thinks that it is enough. She decides to buy the property – with the giftshop in it – and so everything has to go. If that happens, where will all the memories of Mr. Ut go? Ut is afraid that everything would disappear for good, including himself. Because… when things are no longer in the shop, they could be lost forever.

Forgotten Creatures and Lost Causes is an initiative by Tim Velraeds, one of Duda Paiva Company’s most experienced performers. His fascination and vast knowledge of extinct species is the basis for this production. Come and see the last Thylacine, Rhino, Malono, the flesheating plant and – of course – the Dodo.

In Forgotten Creatures and Lost Causes, Duda Paiva Company brings extinct animals back to life. The wonderful world of Duda Paiva lends itself pre-eminently to the memory of special, long-forgotten creatures. Paiva’s work is characterized by the magical-realistic foam sculptures in it, which amaze, move and confront the audience. Often they are almost indistinguishable from real life creatures. With his movement technique The Object Score (the choreography of dancer and puppet) Duda Paiva makes the impossible visible. Come and enter the fantasy world of Lost Creatures!

DPC is an internationally operating theater group. The performances are a crossover of dance and puppets, with which we tell stories that touch, confront, entertain and sometimes disturb the audience. In this performance minimal use is made of text, making Lost Creatures extremely suitable for an international audience and people with a hearing impairment.
