IRC and DPC are looking for explosive and theatrical dancers for the upcoming theatre piece Avatāra. Dancers with a background in hip hop, experimental, break, popping and funk related styles have our preference.

Furthermore we are looking for flexibility, acrobatic ability, those who are not afraid to think outside of the box and – last but not least – we are looking for dancers who are motivated to learn how to animate sculptures, how to breathe life into the foam artworks of Duda Paiva Company.

Both professionals and interns are welcome.

ABOUT AVATĀRA

Worlds come together in this special co-production by master puppeteer Duda Paiva and the acclaimed choreographer Shailesh Bahoran. The audience is part of an immersive journey through impressive vistas of Brazilian and Indian culture, walking through mysterious landscapes between heaven and earth and meeting companions who are both man and god. Together we discover that new encounters can lead to something more than the sum of things: a clash between existing elements that generates enough force to breathe life into something that did not exist before.

In an optimistic and powerful performance in which dance and puppetry merge, Shailesh and Duda explore the tension between humans and gods. Do gods breathe life into people or is it man who creates gods? What is the hidden power of symbolism? How do past clashes affect the way we look at the gods? In this co-production we look for answers in an interesting reflection between the artificial humanity of puppets and the mechanical movement created by the dance language popping.

Shailesh and Duda refer in Avatāra to the anime and comics culture, full of superheroes and supernatural powers. In both Brazilian and Indian religious culture, there is a prominent place for demigods, nature gods and impressive adventures that would not look out of place in epic stories by Masashi Kishimoto (Naruto), Marvel or Tolkien, for example.
